Bazuka Treatment Gel is a once daily application. It is designed to inhibit the spread of the verrucca/wart infection and it does this by forming a water-resistant, protective barrier. About warts and verrucas: The fact is most people will suffer from a wart or verruca at least once in their life, usually before the age of 20. It is estimated that at any time, around one in ten people in the UK have a wart or verruca. Warts and verrucas are a common problem for children especially, since they are very infectious and easily passed around. Public swimming pools are well-known verruca risk areas, since children walk around bare-foot, making the infection easy to spread. What is a verruca? Verrucas are warts on the foot, or 'plantar warts'. You could call any wart a verruca, but people usually use the term 'verruca' specifically to mean a wart on the sole of the foot. What causes verrucas? Verrucas are caused by an infection of the skin by a virus called the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is highly contagious. The viral infection is spread through skin contact with contaminated surfaces. We are especially prone if our immune system is weakened, or if the skin on our hands and feet is damaged by cuts or scratches and comes into contact with rough surfaces contaminated with the virus. This explains why people often catch verrucas in communal changing areas, like those at swimming pools and gym clubs. If someone has a wart or verruca the virus can spread to other parts of their body as well as to other people. Verrucas tend to appear on weight bearing areas such as the ball of the foot, making them particularly uncomfortable and quite painful to walk on. In addition, verrucas can be more painful when you wear tight fitting shoes. Things to know about verrucas. Verrucas may go away by themselves eventually, but this can take a considerable length of time, and there is always the risk of spreading them to others or getting more yourself because they are contagious. So it is best to treat them when they first appear. The longer verrucas and warts are left untreated the harder they can be to remove, so children's hands and feet in particular should be checked regularly. Good ways to avoid getting verrucas include always wearing some kind of footwear in places like communal showers and sports changing rooms, and always using your own towel.

The active ingredient, Salicylic acid has bacteriostatic and fungicidal actions, but it is its keratolytic properties which are important for this medicinal product. When applied externally it produces slow and painless destruction of the epithelium. Salicylic acid is usually applied in the form of a paint in a collodian base (10 to 17%) or as a plaster (20 to 50%) to destroy warts or corns. Occlusal is indicated for the treatment and removal of common and plantar warts (verrucae). For topical application. Prior to application soak wart in warm water for five minutes. Remove loose tissue with a brush, emery board, pumice or abrasive sponge, being careful to avoid causing pin-point bleeding or abrading the surrounding healthy skin. Dry thoroughly with a towel not used by others to avoid contagion. Carefully apply Occlusal twice to the wart using the brush applicator allowing the first application to dry before applying the second. Thereafter repeat treatment once daily or as directed by physician. Do not apply to surrounding healthy skin. Clinically visible improvement should occur in one to two weeks but maximum effect may be expected after four to six weeks. There are no differences in dosage for children, adults or the elderly.
